Our Detroit Showroom is proud to offer a really mean 1975 Jeep Grand Cherokee Chief. 1981 Jeep CJ5

1981 Jeep CJ5

Engine: 268 CID I6
Transmission: 4- Speed Manual
Mileage: 5,000 ( since rebuilt )

Gateway Classic Cars of Houston is proud to offer this 1981 CJ-5 Jeep Renegade! This one is powered by a 268 CID I6 with a T176 4-speed transmission. It has an AMC 20 and 3:31 gears and has only covered about 5,000 miles since the build. The exterior is finished in black PMG paint with a tan vinyl interior. The build was performed by Houston Gear and the quality is excellent. This Jeep is outfitted with an AM/FM radio, manual convertible top, spare tire, tilt wheel, seat belts, vinyl interior, radial tires, raised white letters and aluminum alloy wheels. The Willys CJ-5 (after 1964 Jeep CJ-5) was influenced by new corporate owner, Kaiser, and the Korean War M38A1 Jeep. It was intended to replace the CJ-3B, but that model continued in production. The CJ-5 repeated this pattern, continuing in production for three decades while three newer models appeared. "The CJ-5 has the distinct honor of being a vehicle that was hard to kill off... equaling the longest production run of note. From 1980 to 1983, the CJ-5 came standard with a "Hurricane"-branded version of the GM Iron Duke I4 with an SR4 close-ratio, four-speed manual transmission. The 258 cu in (4.2 L) AMC straight-6 engine remained available as an option, but the transmission was changed from the Tremec T-150 three-speed to a Tremec T-176 close-ratio four-speed. The Dana 30 front axle was retained, but the locking hubs were changed to a five-bolt retaining pattern versus the older six-bolt. The demise of the AMC CJ5 model has been attributed to a December 1980 60 Minutes segment where the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) staged a demonstration to illustrate that the CJ5 was apt to roll over "in routine road circumstances at relatively low speeds." Years later, it was revealed the testers only managed to achieve eight rollovers out of 435 runs through a corner. The IIHS requested the testers implement "vehicle loading" (hanging weights in the vehicle's corners inside the body, where they were not apparent to the camera) to generate worst-case conditions for stability Don’t miss your chance to get behind the wheel of this one. Contact Gateway Classic Cars in Houston for more information. Financing and shipping options are available. Office hours are Monday through Saturday 9-5pm central time. From ’53 to ’70 Kaiser was the result of a big merger between Willy’s and an independent automaker. This CJ-7 is powered by a strong and rebuilt 258 CID I6 done by S&S Auto. The T150 3-Speed manual transmission was also rebuilt with everything being down around 5,000 miles ago. The list of new components is miles long and includes items like: • Centerforce Dual Clutch • Custom Built Roll Cage • Borla Headers & Exhaust • TuffStuff Brake Booster Kit • Delta Headlights • Wide Trac CJ Axles • Howell Fuel-Injection Kit • Stainless Steel body kit • Radiator overflow tank • Mooq upper and lower ball joints • Stainless Steel Spectra Fuel Tank • Crown Automotive Power Steering Pump • 4” Moore Lift kit • Detroit True Trac Limited Slip Differential • Dana 30 rear end • OEM Steering Column • Custom one-piece axel Kit • Currie Heavy Duty Steering System • Genright Aluminum Fender Flare Kit • Aluminum Radiator The list goes on for this mean machine with the most noticeable feature being the Kevlar paint. The color is Audi Sepang Blue and really makes this jeep a unique classic. The Kevlar paint is fully capable of withstanding a hard ride off-road and looks great rolling down the highway. The Jeep also features a Smittybilt X20 10,000lb capacity winch strapped to the front bumper. This Jeep sits on a set of 17” XD Crank wheels paired with 35” Wrangler MTR tires. Moving onto the inside of the Jeep you will find the seats have been nicely upholstered with minimal wear. 1973 Jeep CJ5

1973 Jeep CJ5

Engine: 304 CID V8
Transmission: 3-Speed Manual
Mileage: 609 ( undocumented )

Now for sale in our Gateway Classic Cars of Houston showroom is this awesome 1973 Jeep CJ5! This one is powered by a numbers matching 304 CID V8 engine with a 3-speed manual transmission. Outside it is yellow and inside you will find tan vinyl seats. Safety is enhanced with seat belts. Radial white letter tires wrap rally wheels. This is not a resto mod Jeep, this is a survivor. It hasn’t been updated to modern and non-original equipment. The paint is original and has stayed very nice. It only has 41,000 (mostly towed) miles on the clock! The car was originally from California, how do we know? We have the original 1973 owner’s manual supplement service policy and warranty with the original owner listed on the back! The 1972 model year brought significant changes to the CJ-5. American Motors began fitting their own engines, which also required changes to both body and chassis. The base Willys 4-cylinder was replaced by AMC's Torque Command straight-6 engines, giving the entry-level CJ-5 the power of the previously optional Buick V6. Standard became the 232 cu in (3.8 L), and optional the 258 cu in (4.2 L), which was standard in California. Both engines used a one-barrel Carter YF carburetor. Also in 1972, AMC's 304 cu in (5.0 L) V8 engine became available, which upgraded the power-to-weight ratio to a level comparable to a V8 muscle-car. Other drive-train changes included a new front axle - a full-floating, open-knuckle Dana 30, which was both 25 lbs lighter and reduced the turning circle by 6 ft. To accommodate the new engines, the wheelbase was stretched by 3 in (76 mm), and the fenders and hood were stretched by 5 in (127 mm), pushing the firewall two inches closer to the rear. A new box-frame was fitted, featuring six cross-members for more rigidity. Also, a larger fuel tank was mounted, moved from under the driver's seat to under the rear, between the frame rails. In 1973, a new dash was introduced, with a single gauge in the center of the dash housing the speedometer and fuel and temperature gauges. This beautiful Jeep is in our Houston showroom. Come by and see us at 1910 Cypress Station Dr #200, Houston, TX 77090. You can contact the showroom at (832)243-6220 or email the at Houston@GatewayClassicCars.com

1979 Jeep CJ5

Engine: 304 V8
Transmission: 3 Speed Manual
Mileage: 93,575 ( undocumented )

For sale in our Fort Lauderdale showroom is this attention grabbing 1979 Jeep CJ5. Nicknamed “High Risk II”, this modified Jeep is easily one of the most fun vehicles we have come across. The “CJ” is short for Civilian Jeep as these Jeeps have roots back to the military. A whopping 603,303 CJ5’s were produced between 1955 and 1983. Despite the popularity, finding restored Jeeps in this condition is becoming increasingly difficult. This bright orange, four wheeled, fun machine is gel coated making for a very durable exterior. On the rear of the vehicle, “High Risk II” is painted onto the body, as is the engine size and model on the sides of the vehicle. Also in the same orange color are two matching fire extinguishers. This Jeep is 100 percent road legal. The black vinyl top works well with black frame that is exposed under the body. Under the hood you will find a 304 cid motor mated to a 3-speed manual transmission. This Jeep drives very well and is smooth under acceleration. This is backed by a 12 bolt rear end. The engine bay also has plenty of chrome, from the alternator, to the fan shroud, to the air cleaner and valve covers. There is also a gear selection based on the type of driving you will be doing, be it off roading, or cruising. The exhaust system consists of long tube headers leading to dual side exit exhaust tips. Inside this Jeep is polished aluminum in all of the right spots. There is an Indy shift knob and pioneer speakers in the rear. This CJ5 sits on American Racing wheels wrapped in some monstrous go-anywhere tires. These extra large tires measure in at a massive 35 inches by 12.5 inches. This lifted Jeep is perfect for anything you throw at it. Go mudding, to the beach, off-roading, or just take it on a trip around town.
