This very cool, very unique and very rare 1969 Meyers Tow’d is available at Gateway Classic Cars in our Detroit Showroom. The Meyers Manx was the brain child of famed engineer, artist, boat builder and surfer Bruce Meyer. In short, Bruce created a one of a kind car that would set off road records, win races and become one of the most iconic car crazes in pop culture by creating the Dune Buggy. The Manx had won 39 out of 41 slalom races and won its class in the Pike’s Peak Hill Climb. It handled better than any other off-road vehicle and was much more fun to drive due to its light weight and supple suspension – as Car and Driver stated back in the ‘60’s. Ah, but that wasn’t enough for Mr. Meyer - he wanted more, much more. Thus the creation of the Meyer Tow’d. Aptly named as it was supposed to be towed to and from the dunes or off road site having no hood or fenders it was never intended to be for road use clearly stated by the tow arm sticking out of the nose for easy hitching. The body was smaller and lighter than the Manx and was built on a custom tube frame instead of the shortened Beetle frame as the Manx. The Tow’d was the thrill seekers off road dream vehicle. Where its V8 competitors got bogged down pushing their way out of the sand the Tow’d danced right across it. But due to its non street use, heavy copying by competitors and tragic crash Bruce sustained in a Tow’d severing his foot at the ankle, the Tow’d ended production at under 1000 made. Shimmering in red/orange with totally rad green, green, blue, grey flames singing over a black nose make you feel like it’s more surfboard than off road vehicle. Ready for all your off road pleasures. Built as 145th in production, February 1969 with a real fiberglass shell where some early models were supplied in a very brittle plastic shell. This 1969 Meyers Tow’d has only 20 miles since rebuild and as many have been rebuilt, customized and replaces this does feature a period correct Candy Blue 1973-74 VW 1700cc duel port engine to help you dance across those dunes. 4 speed manual with Hurst straight shaft shifter and wood handle are pure old school but when you’re strapped down with harness safety belts and you hit the accelerator to spin those super wide off road tires you’ll feel like a kid in school. Pure unadulterated fun is the only feeling that will exist. For the price of a well equipped jet-ski or snow mobile you can own a piece of history and have fun in the snow, sand or dirt year round. I’d bet its lot cheaper than therapy too – and way more effective. 1970 Volkswagen Beetle

1970 Volkswagen Beetle

Engine: 1835 CC
Transmission: 4-Speed Manual
Mileage: 11,525 ( undocumented )

Gateway Classic Cars of Chicago is proud to offer a super cool 1970 Volkswagen Beetle. This little Beetle has come a long way since rolling off the assembly line in 1970. Gone is the original flat four which would’ve had something in the neighborhood of 57 horsepower. In it’s place is a freshly built Willy’s Racing Engines Dual Port 1,825cc. This screaming air cooler has twin34 Weber carbs, as well as a custom exhaust which allows it to really breathe. The result is about 200 horsepower and one of the fastest Beetles around. The car will attract a crowd everywhere it goes. It wears bright lime green and black two tone paint, and sports a unique roof “snorkel” which scoops air into the oil cooler. The transmission has been upgraded to a “Freeway Flyer” 4 speed and even the interior has been fully updated. As if it needed another way to gather attention, it’s party trick is the tilt forward fiberglass front end. What a great way to get into the classic car hobby. This Beetle could be the star of your next cruise night, and for a fraction of the price of a restored muscle car. The really fun part is, with the light weight, and the increased horsepower, you might even surprise a few muscle cars off the line! You can see this sweet little ’70 Beet in our Chicago showroom or at www.GatewayClassicCars.com. Please contact 708-444-4488 or chicago@gatewayclassiccars.com with inquiries.

1968 Volkswagen Beetle

1968 Volkswagen Beetle

Engine: 1600 CC Flat 4cyl
Transmission: 4 Speed Manual
Mileage: 3,500 ( since rebuilt )

Gateway Classic Cars of Louisville is proud to present this cool 1968 Volkswagen Beetle. Many will say the Bug is responsible for what we know as the interstate highway system that we have today. In the early 30’s a crazy man in Germany wanted to make a “high-speed” system of roads to move people and product through his country. Little did we know at the time this man would become to known as the Furor and the real reason for these roads was to move troops quickly. I think we know how that worked out for him, not very well. Unlike Adolf the Bug would live on for many decades to come and much like him have a colt following that lives on today. This 1968 Beetle, Bug, or people mover is a notable example of why people fell in love with these little, almost indestructible cars. Sporting its flashy red paint and accented with those classic chrome bumpers it gets as many looks as cars twice its price. The roof rack with its stained wood gives it an original classic look. The matching deck lid rack only adds to the appeal. Under that deck lid a brand new, not rebuilt, 1600CC engine is tucked away making this a great candidate for your teen’s first car. Open the doors and you will notice the classic interior is in very good condition. Yet still the part that gets me is this car is a radio delete car. If you go underneath the car you will notice that the floorboards are spotless. Unlike many VW’s that have anything from house siding to stop signs these floorboards are original to the car. The original owner’s manual and toolkit are in the trunk something else you rarely see with one of these beauties. If you have been thinking about getting a great classic car that will always be in style or classic that is a blast to drive but doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to do so this little piece of history will be a perfect fit. Options on this 1968 Volkswagen Beetle include; Vinyl Interior, Seat Belts, Hubcaps, and Radial Tires. This 1968 Volkswagen Bug is for sale in our Louisville Showroom and can be seen in greater detail including 100+ HD pictures and an HD Video at www.gatewayclassiccars.com. 1965 Volkswagen Beetle

1965 Volkswagen Beetle

Engine: 4 Cyl
Transmission: 4 Speed Manual
Mileage: 19,784 ( undocumented )

This 1965 Volkswagen Beetle is for sale in our Louisville KY showroom. This sinister black beetle is one of the meanest looking and best performing beetle we have had in our showroom. The black paint is slick and shows well but this bug has more than just good looks. The 145 series tire on the front VS the 215’s on the back begin to give you an idea of what this “Peoples car” is all about. With the hood having that classic tilt opening up top the story is becoming even more clear, this beetle was built to run. The built engine has a ton of aftermarket EMPI parts that give this air-cooled 4 enough power to really open any enthusiasts eyes. The split intake with a set of EMPI carbs really catches the eye while the note coming out of the custom exhaust lets everyone know you mean business. The 4-speed transmission is an absolute blast to shift thru with the pattern feeling tight and close just as it should. The interior is rather original other than that huge tach and a couple gauges added to the dash. That of course is until you see the full roll bar making it safer while adding some rigidity. If you have been wanting to get into one of a bug but have not found one that gets the blood pumping when you drive it this black beetle may be the one. Options on this 1965 Volkswagen Beetle include, Vinyl Interior, and Radial Tires. This 1965 Volkswagen Bug is for sale in our Louisville Showroom and can be seen in greater detail including 100+ HD pictures and an HD Video at www.gatewayclassiccars.com.
