According to the information that the owner has provided on this car’s history, this car was run by Hall-VDS Racing out of Midland, Texas for the 1991 CART season. Piloted by John Andretti, this car won the opening race of the season at the Gold Coast IndyCar Grand Prix, as well as taking 5 at the Indianapolis 500.
This 1991 Model Lola Indy car has recently been run in vintage events with SVRA, HSR, and other organizations for racing such vintage racers. It is powered by the Ilmor-Chevy 265A turbocharged V8. I know what you are thinking, who can you get to work on that? Good news, it was recently completely rebuilt by VDS Racing, and only has about 3 hours on it since the overhaul. The car has been professionally maintained by knowledgeable Indy Car technicians, with it’s only modification since the Hall-VDS days being a shift light. The ultimate development of Bill Mitchell and Zora Arkus-Duntov’s Sting Ray concept, the 1967 Corvette is a great choice for upgrading to modern powertrain, mechanicals and passenger accommodations. The final year of mid-year body styling was the least cluttered and arguably most attractive of all, one that seems to encourage builders to preserve its beauty and keep most, if not all, modifications under wraps. In this case the Sting Ray’s stock features are preserved, even to the point of using 1967 Silver Pearl paint and decorating the big-block hood with a contrasting black-Stinger accent. All the correct chrome and stainless trim has been preserved, including the classic Bowtie chromed driver’s mirror and factory-style side exhaust outlets. There is modern Corvette power under the power-actuated hood in the form of an all-aluminum GM Performance Parts LS3 V-8 engine. Rated at 430 HP in the 2008 to 2013 Corvette, this electronically fuel-injected powerplant has been tuned to crank a mighty 525 HP through a 5-speed automatic transmission to the C6 differential. A completely powder-coated, professionally fabricated custom steel-tube chassis enables the use of proven C6 front and C5 rear independent suspension with aluminum double wishbones (also powder-coated). This allows a wide choice of rolling stock; here it comprises chromed 18-inch front and 19-inch rear Aluminum wheels, shod with Toyo red-stripe tires, 275/35-19 rear and 235/40-18 front. Visible through the wheels are the red powder-coated 6-piston C6 Z06 calipers up front, and 4-piston rear Z06 binders out back, which clamp down on drilled and slotted rotors, guaranteeing rapid deceleration from hyperspeed. Inside, you'll see its spectacular distressed red leather interior, which features power windows, Vintage Air, custom red carpeting, Auto Meter gauges, bolstered seats, polished billet controls and a retro-look AM/FM radio with Bluetooth. This is the one! For sale in the Fort Lauderdale showroom is this extremely rare TV series, 1976 Ford Gran Torino. Not only is this remarkable Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino one of the 1,000 limited production editions built by Ford in the spring of 1976, of which only 300 or fewer are still known to be in existence, it was one of the two used by Spelling Goldberg Productions on the actual 1970s TV series. According to a hand written letter it was identified as Unit 129 and was used as a camera car on the TV series for the 77 through 79 seasons. Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul sat in and drove this car! The vehicle comes with documentation verifying its use on the TV series in a letter from Buddy Loesch, who worked in the TV show’s transportation department along with a cancelled check from Spelling Goldberg Productions with the car’s description on it listing it as “Unit 129.” The studio replaced the original 351 with a 429 4 bbl. The red bubble light, police radio, siren, wigwag headlights and telephone seen on the series are still present. No expense was spared in completeing the restoration. Costs exceeded $60,000 and took three years to complete bringing the car to show quality. The previous owner who completed the restoration advised that the car was once owned by the Hollywood Museum before being sold to a private owner and that the car had approximately 60,000 miles on it before its restoration and engine rebuild. The production company doing the remake movie Starsky & Hutch solicited to lease the car for use in the making of the movie but the request was declined as the production company could not guarantee they would not damage the car during filming. The car is in brilliant show quality condition, has been garage kept and covered and never driven in harsh weather conditions. Options include AM/FM/CD radio, spare tire, power steering, seat belts, vinyl interior and radial tires.
