Gateway Classic Cars of Orlando is proud to present this beautiful 1938 Packard 1605 Super Eight Convertible Sedan From the very beginning, the Packard name stood for luxury and quality and became one of the top brands in the US. Steeply based in tradition. Packard espoused reliability and effortless operation in their machinery, and that philosophy reached its apex in the 1930s. Packards were adorned with some of the most handsome bodywork available anywhere.

This 1938 Packard 1605 Super Eight convertible sedan represents the pinnacle of Packard design, placing a sporting yet practical convertible sedan body on a mammoth 139-inch wheelbase. The result is an imposing, elegant car which, when the top is down, has the dashing profile of a convertible. Roll-up windows and a surprisingly large trunk make it an ideal touring partner, and received a top-flight restoration in 2011 .

The Dark Blue bodywork truly stands out and looks quite spectacular. It has always been a complete, well-cared-for machine that was finally given a comprehensive rebuild in anticipation of enjoying its impressive road manners. Fit and finish are what you would expect of Packard’s finest, with doors that close with just gentle pressure ,a hood that fits snugly, and paint that remains shiny and bright .Yes, there are a few signs of use here and there, but the overall presentation is extremely impressive.

Chrome and other brightwork including the grille louvers, massive bumpers, and beautiful details throughout. Of note, the hood grilles remain excellent and, of course, the famous Packard Cormorant hood ornament exhibits crisp details.

The interior offers sumptuous dark blue leather that’s the ideal match to the dark blue bodywork. Still in outstanding condition, it shows only very minor signs of use. Matching door panels and refinished wood garnish moldings add to the upscale elegance, and all the door hardware is correct. The gauges offer interesting pointers that seem to float in the center of the dial. In back, there’s enough room for three to stretch out in luxurious comfort, with high-quality carpets, a foot rest. The top stows neatly in the surprisingly small compartment behind the seat, where it’s hidden under a matching boot.

All Super 8s featured the legendary 320 cubic inch straight-eight which was rated at 130 horsepower. But the real story is torque, and this car moves so effortlessly you might think there’s an electric motor under the hood. The engine bay is accurately detailed. Packard added an independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes in 1937, making these late-30s Packards some of the most highly-sought tour vehicles due to their comfort. This is unquestionably a first-rate Full Classic .This is a no-excuses Packard that more than lives up to lofty expectations.

1950 Packard Deluxe 8

1950 Packard Deluxe 8

Engine: Straight 8
Transmission: 2 Speed Auto
Mileage: 79,290 ( undocumented )

Go Pack(ard) GO!!!! We have an awe inspiring 1950 Packard Deluxe 8. This is decked out to commemorate the Green Bay Packers. It features a 356ci Straight 8 with a 2 speed auto trans. Take this beauty tailgating to all the games, you will not be disappointed in the amount of heads that will turn while driving this beauty! Although the postwar Packards sold well, the ability to distinguish expensive models from lower-priced models disappeared as all Packards, whether sixes or eights, became virtually alike in styling. Further, amid a booming seller's market, management had decided to direct the company more to volume middle-class models, thus concentrating on selling lower-priced cars instead of more expensive—and more profitable—models. Worse, they also tried to enter the taxi cab and fleet car market. The idea was to gain volume for the years ahead, but that target was missed: Packard simply was not big enough to offer a real challenge to the Big Three, and lacked the deep pockets with which a parent company could shelter them, as well as the model lineup through which to spread the pricing. As a result, Packard's image as a luxury brand was further eroded. As Packard lost buyers of expensive cars, it could not find enough customers for the lesser models to compensate. The shortage of raw materials immediately after the war—which was felt by all manufacturers—hurt Packard more with its volume business than it would have had it had focused on the specialty luxury car market. This vehicle is located in our Milwaukee showroom. You can view this 1950 Packard Deluxe 8 in greater detail including HD pictures and an HD video of it running and driving at Gatewayclassiccars.com.
