Gateway Classic Cars is privileged to offer for purchase in our Dallas-Fort Worth showroom this stunning and highly desirable 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE Cabriolet. The exterior is a beautiful, rich dark green with a thick cognac leather interior. The documentation for this vehicle includes a binder full of service records and the original owner’s manual. Features on this collector quality vehicle includes air conditioning, power windows, power steering, steering column automatic transmission, power disc brakes, and Becker Europa AM/FM radio with power antenna. Mercedes-Benz's elegant Paul Bracq-designed W111 made its debut in 1959 and was produced, in its many variations, through 1971. Among the most desirable variations were the two-door models—the 280 SE Cabriolet and Coupe—which were expensive, virtually hand-built automobiles hailing from the great tradition of German craftsmanship. The wood trim throughout the interior were all genuine solid hardwood. The leather upholstery is thick and comfortable; and both the ride quality and handling are superb. These cars rapidly became favorites of international socialites and celebrities, and they were frequently seen cruising in all of the world's most posh destinations. Just less than 1,400 280SE Cabriolets were assembled from 1968-1971. Their rarity, performance, handling, craftsmanship are all blended perfectly into a design that has become iconic. It is no wonder why the 280SE has become one of the most recognized classic Mercedes-Benz models sought after by collectors today. This follows from the ability of the system to calculate the optimum air/fuel mixture for starting as well as from the superior atomization that results from injection of the fuel as compared to fuel delivery from a carburetor. If you take a peak under the car you will notice that this car could be literally eaten off of. The HEDTS suspension for the front and rear are all new and set up to be a comfortable driver with coil over shocks. This Camaro SS is set up with a Ford 9” rear end and has amazing stopping power with its adjustable master cylinder and Corvette style disc brakes. This car rumbles with its duel exhaust in idle and has a pure performance feel when accelerating. The style of this car comes from the exterior with its beautiful dark red paint, white hockey stick stripes, and white SS badges. The aggressive stance comes from its deep dish offset 18” in the front and 20” in the rear custom wheel setup. Matching the white accents on the exterior, the interior has comfy white leather bucket seats. The modern feel follows to the inside of the car with its custom sound system and Bluetooth paring abilities. Engine: 351 W Stroked to 427 CID V8Transmission: 5 Speed ManualMileage: 13,852 ( undocumented )
With just over 2,000 miles on the freshly rebuilt 427 cubic inch and very few on the build overall, this replica of an extraordinary piece of automotive history is a sight to behold. The GT-40 was developed to compete with Ferrari at the 24 hours of Le Mans and was able to win four consecutive years from 1966-1969 including a 1-2-3 finish the very first year. Superformance replicates these cars nearly exactly the way you would have seen them racing all of those years ago. This GT-40 was built back in 2008 and features the same Gulf orange and blue paint scheme that was on the original race cars. Protecting the paint is a clear bra on the front and was ceramic coated just last year in 2016 which makes it easy to maintain and clean when you decide to show it. As you open the door and slide in over the seat, you feel as if you have just slide into the cockpit of a rocket ship rather than a classic car. 5-point seat belt harnesses, a line of switches along the dash, and plenty of gauges to monitor, you start to understand what it must have been like to race one for hours on end. This one however has a feature that those racers would have loved to have; air conditioning! With the engine just behind you and such a light weight car, there was not much for heat or sound dampening. The air conditioning makes the longer cruises much more bearable. The raw power this car puts out with little weight will throw you back harder in your seat than almost any other car out there. Complete your childhood dream, by owning the car you never thought possible for a fraction of the cost of the real deal! This GT-40 is ready to take to the track or shows and turn every head while doing it. This vehicle is located in our Denver showroom. You can view this 2008 Superformance GT-40 in greater detail including HD pictures and an HD video of it running and driving at Gatewayclassiccars.com.
