For sale in our Dallas showroom is one of the most recognizable American vehicles ever to hit the road. The 1974 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. Also known as the first year of the “rubber bumper” Corvettes, the 1974 model year saw the Corvette make that final transformation from muscle to sports car. It was now destined to compete on the world stage. With the absence of chrome bumpers front and rear, and smoother sloping lines front and rear, the Corvette became much more European in its appearance.
Of the 5,474 convertibles produced in 1974, we are betting very few looked this good when they were new, let alone now. A recipient of a high-end frame on restoration, there was no expense spared when this car was brought back to life. Careful, don’t fall in when you take a close look at how deep that black paint is. Toss in a dark red interior, and you have yourself a choice color combo for a drop-top Corvette. That interior is a wonderful place to spend some time too, as it features a tilt wheel, power windows, power steering, AM/FM/CD radio, and a must during summer, cold blowing A/C. All of those driving pleasures are so necessary, because you aren’t going to want to spend a second off the road with this car. The Cotton Racing 350 CID V8 makes a very respectable 350 hp. Mated to the Tremec TKO600 5 Speed manual, this car is at home cruising no matter the speeds. Both the engine and transmission were rebuilt around 2,500 miles ago.
If you are a fan of the Rubber Bumper Corvettes, it doesn’t get much better than this. Save thousands, buy the fruits of someone else’s labor of love!
