Now for sale in our Houston Showroom this sporty 1967 Plymouth Barracuda. This MOPAR is a fine example of the first year of the second generation of the infamous Barracuda line. Now with a larger wheel base for better handling and some new design changes the new edition of the car really took off with the general public and production numbers soared. This example is very clean and completely rust free. The floor pans, rocker panels, wheel wells, trunk pan, firewall, fenders, are all solid and structurally sound. I do not see any evidence of any rust repair, car appears to be kept indoors most of its life.
The car was professionally repainted a few years ago in a Dupont General Lee orange. The paint finish is of very nice quality and shines up nicely in the sunshine. Color is uniform & even throughout the car and no short cuts were taken. Painted engine bay and underside add to the clean look of the car. The body panel gaps are pretty even and parallel, the doors open & close with ease, hood & trunk do the same with minimal effort for them to stay open & secure. The bumpers on the car (which are the same on the front & back! Little known fact..) are in great condition. The exterior trim, grill, light lenses, emblems, window trim, & glass are all in superb shape.
This is a “D” coded car so it originally was outfitted with a 273 CiD 4BBL V8 from the factory. This car has been treated to an upgrade to the very popular, larger, & formidable 340 CiD V8 4BBL. When the 340 came out in late 1967, it was a street fighter from the start. Separating the 340 from the standard-performance 318 were not just 22 cubic inches, but also engineering performance design changes like a dual timing chain with a windage tray to improve top end engine RPM by keeping the crank counter weights from churning the oil in the pan. This V8 features the “J” casting cylinder head design that incorporated larger runners for larger 2.02 inch intake valves and 1.60 inch exhaust valves, vs the 318’s 1.78 intake and 1.50 exhaust valves. Helping the air flow even more was the high-rise dual plane intake, larger exhaust manifolds, an 850 cfm carburetor, a forged steel crank, high-performance cylinder heads, stronger connecting rods, thicker bulkheads and higher main bearing caps to strengthen the bottom end, & a revised oil pump with a 90 degree adaptor. The 340’s initial power rating was 275HP @ 5000 rpm & 340Trq @ 3200 rpm.
Now that we know this MOPAR is powered by that powerful & lightweight 340 CID V8 that was recently professionally rebuilt by March Machine with less than 850 miles since its installation and a calculated HP rating of 410HP. The block in the car is out of a 1972 Cuda, & it runs strongly and sounds very healthy. It features that signature large 4-barrel 850 cfm carburetor that supplies the fuel to the fire. The engine was balanced during the rebuild as it runs very smoothly warm or cold. It is backed by a sure-shifting 727 Torque-flite 3-speed automatic transmission built by A to B Auto, this ‘Cuda can Git 'er Dun. And, with only about 850 miles on the engine & trans since the build was completed, it's barely broken in! The transmission is connected to a upgraded case hardened & lightened drive shaft that leads into a Doug Strange S-60 limited slip differential with 3.54:1 ratio gearset in a 10-bolt rear end. The car is equipped with Hedman longtube 4into1 headers that leads into a brand new SS true dual 3” exhaust that has Pypes mufflers on it that make this car sound awesome from idle to redline. You need to hear the video.
This 'Cuda isn’t all just power and good looks, it comes with many upgraded systems, mostly all new parts, & a bunch of recent service. A huge benefit to this particular car that separates it from others is that is features a new Ron Francis wiring harness throughout the car with all new fuse blocks & fuses. This is a huge piece of mind that you are free from electrical issues. All the lights on the car work as they should, blinkers, headlights, taillights, brakes, etc.. It has added reliability now that it has upgraded electronic ignition with new spark plugs, wires, MSD blaster coil & other components. It has a new gas tank and fuel supply components, lines, & filter. Keeping that powerhouse under the hood cool is a summit hi-flow aluminum radiator with electric fans, so it won’t have any overheating issues, no matter what traffic is like. New upgraded PST front suspension with new bushings all over the car that really gives this car a truly sporty & controlled feel when in the turns or accelerating. It has nice original MOPAR wheels with newer BF Goodrich tires with plenty of life in them. The car has upgraded to power disc brakes to bring that 400+HP engine to a stop quickly when needed.
Looking into the interior you will see that everything looks like it would have back in 1967 and it does make you feel reminiscent of how car used to have character & originality. The interior is very nice and the white & black contrast well against the General Lee Orange exterior. The white vinly seats are comfortable as they have new foam in them & in very nice condition with no tears or rips. The front seats fold forward to reveal a large back bench seat that can seat 3 adults easily. The front & backs seats, carpet, door panels, headliners, & dash (all gauges work) are all in very nice shape and show very little wear. The center console was kept original to the car to keep a feeling of the history of the 67 Cuda. Interior is secure in place with no rattles or vibrations during operation. It has a new polished steering column with tilt & signal levers that connects to a new GT hardwood steering wheel. The car does have AC & controls & blower work but isn't blowing cold air (needs Freon charge). The trunk is finished out in a clean and new gray carpet that is secure in place and really finishes the cars interior off nicely.
Additional options in this 1967 Plymouth Barracuda for sale include A/C, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Seat Belts, vintage-style AM/FM radio, Rally Wheels, and raised white letter BF Goodrich Radial T/A radial tires. Plant yourself securely in the seat, fire the ignition, throw this Fish in drive, and hang on tight. The exhaust spits an aggressive rumble and the tires squeal for mercy when the pedal hits the floor.
