Gateway Classic Cars Versus Auctions

There are advantages and disadvantages, going the auction route:

Advantages of auctions:

  • You get to participate in an exciting event.
  • You get to see new products and vendors.
  • You have a limited number of buyers to compete against, giving you a chance to pick up a deal.

Disadvantages of auctions:

  • You have to pay to be a bidder.
  • You have ring men and women goading you to bid higher than what you want to pay.
  • You cannot test drive or inspect the vehicle before the bidding starts.
  • You are charged a buyer's fee which makes your final cost higher than your bid price.
  • You are responsible for getting the car out of the arena and shipped immediately after the event is over. Usually, the transporters there will charge a premium for transportation, knowing your options are limited.
