This beefed up 302 features World heads, an Eagle rotating assembly, 10 to 1 compression, Xtreme Energy comp. com, a Holley 750 CFM carburetor, MSD ignition, and a Griffin radiator with an electric fan. A C4 automatic transmission with a shift kit and a 2200 stall converter transfers those horses to the Ford 8" rear end that houses 2.79 gears. The body and paint on this 68' Mustang GT/CS are in great condition. This car has been driven and enjoyed, and still looks fantastic both inside and out. The red exterior paint is perfectly accented by the black decals and black vinyl roof. The black vinyl interior shows little signs of wear, no rips or tears are present, and the dash is not cracked or weathered. So what sets apart a GT/CS (California Special) from other 68' Mustangs? First of all, the GT/CS were only available in a coupe, there were no convertibles or fastbacks produced. The taillights are from a 1965 Thunderbird, and strike a very close resemblance to the Shelby Mustang taillights, a pop-off gas cap similar to the Shelbys is also in the rear to add to the appearance. Also non-functional fiberglass side scoops, fiberglass trunk lid and quarter extensions, fog lights, unique decals/body striping, chrome quarter panel script, and a blacked out front grille without the running horse emblem have all been add to provide a more aggressive look and complete the GT/CS package. According to the Marti report 3,867 1968 Mustang GT/CS models were produced, and they were only produced in the San Jose plant.
