Marketed by both the Chevrolet and GMC divisions, the C/K series encompassed a wide range of vehicles. While most commonly associated with pickup trucks, the model line also included chassis-cab trucks and medium-duty trucks and served as the basis for GM full-size SUVs. Through its entire production, the model line competed directly against the Ford F-Series and the Dodge D series (later the Dodge Ram pickup). Used for both the model branding and the internal model code, "C" denoted two-wheel drive; "K" denoted four-wheel drive. In a branding change, the C/K nomenclature became exclusive to Chevrolet, as all GMC pickups became Sierras (GMC retained the C/K nomenclature for its internal model codes). Between one-ton trucks and medium-duty trucks, Chevrolet and GMC offered the C3500HD chassis cab for commercial use. The standard engine for the 1990 Chevy Silverado 3500 Pickup is a 7.4-liter V-8 engine with 454 cubic inches of displacement. Horsepower for the engine measures 230 with a maximum torque rating of 385 ft.-lbs. Bore and stroke measures 4.25 inches by 4.00 inches with a compression ratio of 7.9-to-1. The engine is gasoline operated and is naturally aspirated. Backing this stout engine is a Turbo 400 (TH400) Transmission. This truck has a maximum payload of 3403 pounds and a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds.
