1955 was a landmark year for Chevrolet-they were finally able to provide a bold response to Ford in the performance battle for the first time in 35 years. Chevrolet's 265 cubic inches Turbo-Fire V8 was a model of efficiency, and, paired with ambitious styling, the Bel Air helped Chevrolet keep 44% of the low-price market segment locked down. The V8 hosted a new 12-volt electrical system that granted greater generator capacity and more efficient battery charging. It allowed power windows, door locks, and windshield wipers, which the previous six-volt electrical system couldn't bear. America fell in love with the Bel Air, and ads claimed it to be the "blue-ribbon beauty that's stealing the thunder from the high-priced cars."
It would be impossible to list everything that has been done to this car, but we will try. The first thing has got to be the eye-catching Twilight Turquoise and White paint job. It looks even better in person. Sitting on an air-ride suspension and aluminum wheels, the stance of this car is just right. Once under the hood, things get even better. A fuel-injected LS Corvette engine sits in front of a four-speed automatic 4L60E transmission. Those ponies work their way back to a Ford 9-inch Posi rear end before finally spinning those big aluminum wheels. Inside this car, you are entirely spoiled.
