Gateway Classic Cars of Houston is proud to present this 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The Jeep Wagoneer is a luxury 4x4 produced and marketed under Jeep under successive automakers from 1962 to 1991. The 1989–1991 model years are considered the top of the breed due to several upgrades. These include upgraded wood siding and modernized aluminum alloy wheels that lost their gold-colored inlays in favor of gunmetal grey metallic. Chrysler also introduced an electrocoat primer for better rust proofing and all exterior colors were now applied in a two-stage base-clearcoat system. With Chrysler purchasing AMC in 1987, the 1988 models essentially a match for their predecessors outside of a newly available sunroof, and keyless entry, an overhead console with map lights, and a rear wiper becoming minor additions to the equipment list in 1989. The Pentastar would bring with it several improvements, such as improved anti-corrosion measures, better overall assembly of the vehicle, and the standardization of certain components that had previously been sourced from a long list of car companies. This upscale version of the Cherokee sported a carpeted interior, a 5.9-liter V8 engine that came standard, 3-speed Chrysler TorqueFlite A727 automatic transmission and a Selec-Trac NP229 transfer case, wood-panel exterior, and a list price comparable to a Corvette. 10,159 units of the 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer were built for that year alone and 101,637 within its entire production period.
