The first generation of Ford Mustang was introduced in 1964 and continued until 1973. The Mustang was expanded on the Ford Falcon chassis with a new body and upgraded engine choices. With the introduction of the Mustang the term "Pony Cars" became the nickname of the series. The popularity of the Mustang drove Chevrolet to introduce the Camaro in direct competition that endures even today.
