The Bel Air model, which was the top trim level, was at the end of its first generation in 1954. This lively and luxurious Chevrolet comes painted in a two-tone Turquoise with Indian Ivory on the roof and rear fenders. The idea was for the coupes to resemble the style of convertible models, while being hardtop cars in reality. All Bel Airs were known for being “color keyed”, or in other words harmonizing the interior with the exterior. In this case that naturally means a Turquoise and Ivory color combination for the cloth/vinyl bench seats and painted dashboard. This example has been recently reupholstered and comes with fingertip-conveniences like power operated seats and windows to go with the period-correct gauges and AM radio. Under the ornamental hood is Chevrolet’s “Blue Flame 125” Inline 6 motor with a cubic-inch displacement of 235 inches rated at 125hp. “New for ’54” were hi-lift cams helping combustion chamber breathing and hydraulic valve lifters helping with engine quietness and eliminating the need for periodic valve adjustment. An automatic column shift operated 2-speed Powerglide transmission with a hydraulic torque converter turns the rear wheels of this 2-door Sport Coupe.
