Produced for only one model year, the Michelotti designed TR250, known as the TR5 in Europe, was very similar to the TR4 sports car, albeit a 6-cylinder over the previous car's 4-cylinder engine. While the European TR5 was fitted with Lucas' fuel injection system, the TR250 utilized twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. Standard equipment included front disc brakes, independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering and a four-speed gearbox. Just over 8,000 TR250s were produced for the US market and is estimated that less than 600 remain today around the world. The TR250's hp increase over the TR-4A was only 6 ponies, but torque rose from 128 lbft to 152, and at a lower rpm. That combined with the Triumph six' inherent smooth ways made a marked improvement in feel and acoustics, even if objective performance wasn't really much better.
