Here is a nice classic. very similar to it's cousin the Mustang, at a much lower price. It is a great way to go for someone looking to get into the classic car hobby with a respectful car that has a lot going for it. The owner recently restored & repainted the exterior, and did some interior freshening up. Paint quality is very nice, something you don't get from your typical tape and spray paint shop. The red with white top, chrome Ford wheels and white letter tires look very sporty, and it is fun to drive! . This car was built at the end of February to early March 1973, and came with 11 factory options to the tune of a $4853. 96 retail. The 351 Cleveland 2Bbl was standard, and give more than enough power to give it the muscle care feel. With that Ford set out to work and under their Mercury banner debuted the Cougar, a gentleman's muscle car. The Cougar would become Mercury's greatest success and see 8 generations spanning 34 years! Here we have a '68 Model. You can't help but crack a smile as you approach this slick Cougar. The paint is very charming blue metallic. The paint in in very nice shape and the black vinyl top looks new. The black vinyl interior looks lightly used. As it should as the restoration occurred within the last few years. This Beautiful Red With White Top, not often seen 1972 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible, is an eye catcher. Under the Hood is a rebuilt ( about 750 miles ago) 351 C. I. Cleveland V8, matted to a rebuilt at the same time and miles, 3 speed FMX Automatic. For 1972 there were only 1,929 XR-7 convertible produced. In 1967, the world-famous race car driver Dan Gurney signed with Lincoln-Mercury to race in the FIA Group II, SCCA Trans Am and A-Sedan Series Competition as team manager for the Cougar Racing Team. His name and image were used to promote the Cougar that first year with great success both on and off the track. Starting with the Mustang's platform, they stretched the wheelbase for more rear-seat room and added plenty of luxury features to make it a more sophisticated alternative to the original pony car. At the same time, the car saw success in Trans-Am with Dan Gurney behind the wheel, proving it to be more than a watered-down muscle car. However, its original role was short-lived, with its nameplate being placed on everything from big station wagons to small front-wheel-drive coupes over the next 30 years. The 1973 XR7 Convertible was the last gasp for the original Cougar. At first glance, the giant headlights and grill of the 1971 redesign make the Cougar look big, and the mandatory crash bumpers added in '73 exaggerate this even further.
