In 1957 Ford introduced its new, completely redesigned, third generation F-Series. Following after its competitors, Dodge and GM, Ford widened the front bodywork while integrating the hood with a clamshell design. This feature would be part of the F Series design for the next two decades. The biggest change still was the option of two different beds, the normal Stepside bed which had the flares over the wheels and naturally a much curvier shape. The other, as this truck is known as, would be the Fleetside. Since everything seemed to be going more streamline in those times it was a natural fit.
