'58 was a new body style for the Thunderbird and they really changed things up. The '58 Thunderbirds, as well as the '58 Lincolns, were Ford's first unibody construction vehicles, which was cutting edge at the time. In addition to changing the construction, Ford also made the Thunderbird quite a bit larger than the previous generation to accommodate the addition of back seats. Though some T-Bird enthusiasts were disappointed to see them ditch the two-seat layout, the market seemed to like it. Ford sold two times as many Thunderbirds in 1958 as the previous year. This T-Bird is just the right color. It is a proto-type paint design that features a bright red and white exterior with matching the red and white vinyl interior. The second generation Ford Thunderbird (also called the Square Bird) was produced by Ford for the 1958 to 1960 model years as a successor to the popular 1955-1957 two seater. In response to Ford-conducted surveys two major changes were made to attract potential buyers: two rear seats were added and the level of luxury and features of a full-sized car were incorporated into a mid-sized platform.

As a result, sales soared and the new model dramatically expanded the personal luxury car market, winning the Motor Trend Car of the Year in 1958. Over 200,000 units were produced in its three-year model run, quadruple that of the two-seater in its three-year span.

Along with the 1958 Lincolns, the 1958 Thunderbird was the first Ford Motor Company vehicle designed with unibody construction.
