1959 Edsel Ranger

View Description

In 1958, after nearly $250M in development costs, Ford debuted the all-new Edsel as a new model priced between the Ford and Mercury line-up of cars. Unfortunately, this was also a recession year and many Americans put off buying a new car, or they didn't buy the higher priced models. Four sub-series appeared on showroom floors across the country - Ranger and Pacer (Ford-based) and Corsair and Citation (Mercury-based) plus a line of Ford-based wagons. Sales were way below projections so Ford entered 1959 with only two sub-series - the Ranger and the Corsair. This Ranger we have is very typical of what the average Edsel buyer was purchasing for reliable transportation. A four door sedan with a 292 V8, a three speed manual transmission (automatics were available),and power steering. a modern AM-FM radio looks original and brings a '50s vibe to the dash layout. Many options that were available were not ordered for this beautiful survivor car. Painted a beautiful shade of blue with a white top and moulding inserts, this car really is cool. The interior has been reupholstered in blue cloth and is a full-sized car in every sense of the word. When you clean this car up,...

1959 Edsel Ranger

View Description

Powering this sharp classic is a 292 Y-block CID V8 engine and mated to a 3 'on the tree' manual transmission. For 1959, the Ranger and the new top-line Corsair both shared the same 120 in wheelbase. The frame was ladder-type. Styling for the cars became more conservative, with the horse collar grille being replaced by a shield shape filled with rows of bars. Only 7,778 two-door sedans (all U. S. -built) were built in 1959. This Edsel sports a gloss red paint with white filler in between the trim. The interior is in normal wear condition and sports two toned cloth and vinyl. The dash is very sporty with chrome accents. Options on this car includes an AM/FM radio, Hub caps, Cloth interior, radial tires, and so much more! The current owner has recently added new tires, upgraded the brakes, and changed out the clutch. If you are looking for a piece of Ford History that the whole family can enjoy taking on trips or to...
