Production of GT350's began in 1965 at Shelby American in airplane hangers at Los Angeles Airport. To gain greater recognition and increased sales, in 1966 Shelby collaborated with The Hertz Corporation to produce 999 Shelby's for the Hertz Sports Car Rental Club. Theses GT-350H's- along with other high-performance cars- rented for $19. 95 daily. Shelby/Hertz cars were not produced again until 2006 and 2016. This Shelby GT350H (VIN # SFM6S1208) is finished in its factory correct Wimbeldon White with gold. The current owner has had this car for 27 years and has meticulously restored it to how it is today. These cars have an interesting history unlike all the other Mustangs produced since 1965. With only 1,000 of these cars built, to have one in 1966, these cars were commissioned by Hertz Rental Cars to introduce the new 'Rent-A-Racer' line, for the price of $17 a day and 17 cents per mile, you could rent one of these to show off in style. A vast majority of these cars were heavily abused by renters by either quickly swapping motors out, or welding in roll cages, then returned to the rental agency after everything was cut out. This car was clearly not one of the abused vehicles, as it does come with the documented numbers matching 'K' code engine, with optional Paxton supercharger, (Not currently installed), and the matching 3-speed automatic. To further prove that this car was well taken care of, under the rear seats, there is no evidence of a roll cage welded in place. The interior is the very sporty black vinyl with dash-mounted tachometer. If you are a Mustang enthusiast then you have probably heard about the Shelby, Hertz program. This is one of those cars. Originally shipped to a Ford dealer in Richmond Va. This car is in the Shelby registry. The deal with the Hertz Corporation to offer 1,000 G. T. 350s for rental that, after their rental-car lives were finished, were returned to Ford, refurbished, and sold to the public as 'G. T. 350H' models. Most Hertz cars were black with gold LeMans stripes and rocker panel stripes, although a few were white with blue stripes. The car has all its original sheet metal and is a rust-free car. The undercarriage is original and has only been touched up. It still has chalk marks from the factory. This car was repainted in 2013 and is now base coat clear coat.
