Debuting for the 1979 model year, the Fox body Mustangs was well received proved to be much more popular than the short lived Mustang II that proceeded it. The new Fox body platform was so well versed it was used for 14 different Ford produced vehicles. In 1979 the Mustang was chosen to be the Offical Pace Car of the Indy 500.
