At the time, Corvettes chief engineer Dave McLellan and his team had to design, engineer and develop the all-new, Fourth-generation Corvette on an extreme budget. McLellans team was able to refresh the 1980 Corvette with a lot of upgrades, the most noticeable being the new front and rear bumper covers, with an integrated air dam in the front and rear spoiler. The hood profile was lower and the hood, doors, and lift out roof panels were made of thinner and lighter material resulting in a 250-pound weight reduction from the 79 model. These lighter panels along with an aluminum rear differential, aluminum front frame crossmember and the L82s Aluminum intake manifold leaves you with the ever-famous L82 Corvette.
