1983 Lincoln Mark
View Description
Lincoln had been producing some of the finest American luxury cars for over 100 years. Founded in 1917 by Henry M. Leland and purchased in 1922 by the Ford Motor Company on the console of Henry Ford's young and bright son Edsel, the Lincoln Motor Car Company was Ford's answer to combat General Motor's very successful luxury division Cadillac. (Also found by Leland years earlier). For the next few decades, Lincoln stayed the course and built very beautiful cars for the elite the world over, but it wasn't until Edsel had the idea for the Continental in the late 1930's and basically laid the groundwork for the personal luxury car. At least 15 years ahead of its time, this new personal luxury car market really took off by the mid 1960's and wouldn't you know it, the Lincoln name once again played a huge role in this market. First in 1956 when the Mark II debuted and again in 1969 with Lee Iacocca's Mark III. The simple idea of a long hood, short deck and ultra-comfortable cabin and spare time hump on the decklid all became synonymous with the Mark Series cars.
