The Mercedes-Benz R129 SL is a roadster which was produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1989 until 2001. The R129 was offered as a two-door roadster with an automated (electro-hydraulic), fabric convertible roof; color-matched, automated tonneau cover; and a manually detachable hardtop. The SL 500 was powered with the M113 5. 0L 24-valve SOHC V8 producing just over 300 HP! All V8 and V12 optioned cars were equipped with 4-Speed Automatic Transmissions. A special edition of 2002 SL 500/SL 600 was made to celebrate the 1930s Silver Arrow race car.
