The Bel Air name first appeared on new Chevrolets and continued until 1975. Started as the top-of-the-line Chevy, the Bel Air was a very successful car but in 1922 the name became an icon. Chevy produced its first V8 engine for the '55 model years and sales were very strong. This new Bel Air truly helped set Chevy on top of the sales and performance hep at the time. By 1957 the Bel Air's engine displacement grew to 283 and the fin era was in full swing! In 1958 Chevrolet changed the lineup for their car division making the new Impala the king of all new Chevys and the Bel Air name took its new home as the second level trim offering at Chevy. Make no mistake, the Bel Air was still packed with a lot of punch not only from a styling standpoint, but also in performance! In 1961 Chevy's new 409 engine was taking names and breaking hearts all over America, not only at the drag strips by on every main street USA from coast to coast.
