Powering this is the original numbers matching 800cc engine and 5-speed manual transmission. Both were rebuilt 1,800 miles ago. Restored right down to the frame which was straight and rust-free. The frame was powder coated. The instrument pod was restored by a specialist company in Michigan. It has new bearings, seals and gears and got a slightly higher ratio in 5th gear for more relaxed cruising (speed limit was 55 in 1978! ). Rebuilt the carburetors, polished and re-laced both wheels with stainless steel spokes and replaced the wheel bearings. Also, rebuilt the cylinder heads with hardened valve seats and replaced the original iron cylinders with 1984 nikasil ones. The alternator was replaced and upgraded to a higher capacity. The ignition system was replaced with a modern electronic upgrade. The starter is new and upgraded. The saddle is a new Corbin and it sits in a cowl from an RS model, but a new, correct BMW sourced 'bench' seat for two-up riding is included. There are countless BMW sourced new replacement parts including the fuel tank, main and secondary wiring harnesses, literally all rubber and chrome parts and all the cables and controls.
