The 1978 Indy 500 Pace Car marked the first time a Corvette was chosen as the pace car for the Indy 500 and happened to be the 25th anniversary of the Corvette. This well-cared for Corvette is powered by an L82 350 CID small block V8 engine, backed by a GM TH350 3-speed automatic. The L82 was the performance-oriented choice over the L48 option, and in 1978 was putting out 220HP (vs 185HP for the L48). Only 6,502 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car edition Corvettes were built, ensuring that they will continue to become harder to find as time goes on and more of them go by the wayside.
