On May 30th, 1993, the 77th Indy 500 was held to a packed audience of over 300,000 spectators. Brazilian driver Emerson Fittipaldi took the lead with 16 laps to go, and won his second career Indy 500 victory. Leading the pack before the flying of the green flag and keeping the 220 mile per hour monsters at bay, was the 1993 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Pace Car. The track and the Camaro have long histories together, and 1993 was a big year for the two. It was the first car to have the distinction of being used four times as the pace car. Also, the track had major renovations done for the 1993 race, and 93- was the first year of the boldly redesigned 4th Generation Camaro. In sharp contrast to the 3rd gen it featured smooth bodylines and a modern driving feel. When it lead the pack of racecars in the brickyard, it too looked like a proper racer with its LT-1 V8 producing 275Hp, 16 Inch Alloy Wheels and striking black and white paint.
