1966 Mercury Comet

The really nice garage kept (current owner of 11 Years) example has a Fiberglass hood from the factory. According to the owner all panels are original. This has the 390 C. I. Engine / Convertible Top which was a special edition in which only 2,158 were made with that combination. The current owner does have original service manuals and receipts from the previous owners. The car comes with the decorative ring that goes around the outside of the steering wheel. This has the Power Top with matching boot.
The 1966-67 Comet Cyclone GT is a good example of all these Mercury strengths and weaknesses. Comet jumped from a compact to an intermediate in '66 thanks to its use of the new Ford Fairlane body shell. The cars shared a 116-inch wheelbase and, for all intents and purposes, had the same silhouette in both convertible and two-door hardtop form. Mercury got some valuable exposure for its Comet Cyclo GT when it was chosen as the official pace car of the '66 Indianapolis 500.
