Plymouth product planners were given $15 million to freshen up the dowdy little Valiant for 1970. Nobody told them they could spend the money to create a slick, new fastback coupe. Then again, nobody said they couldn't. And so begins the story of the Plymouth Duster. The Duster shared the Valiant's front sheet metal and drivetrain, but from the mid-section to the rear, it had its own individual styling. It was a runaway success for Plymouth, selling over 1,328,377 by the time it was discontinued at the end of the 1976 model year. The Duster was always known as a 'dual personality' car because it could be equipped with a meek six-cylinder engine or have a fire-breathing, high-winding small-block V8. This mean Sublime Green Machine is one hot car. It all starts (pun intended) with a push of a button mounted in the dash. This beauty is a real head turner! Runs and drives even better than she looks! Everything on this car is in immaculate working order and you will have a hard time finding a nice Duster. This restoration started life as an awesome 72,000 original Mile car, and has since then been frame off restored into the beauty you see today. The heart and soul of this Duster is a 360 based 408 CID V8 Stroker built by veteran Mopar sponsored pro stock racer Larry Griffith. Larry rared this full roller motor at 630 ground pounding horsepower, and we believe him! The 408 is fed by triple DEMON Carbs, with custom Indy intake, aluminum Indy heads, TTI Headers and custom Comp Cam grinds. Behind the 408 is a HEMI 4 Speed with Blow Proof Bell Housing, linked to a Pistol Grip Shifter and transferred to the ground with a Mopar 8-3/4 489 Case with 323 LSD Gears. This combo produced a 2500 RPM at 70 MPH, perfect for highway cruising, infact this car regularly makes 100+ mile trips across North Texas, and doesn't break 190F. Under the hood lurks a hard hitting 340 CID that has been worked up into a 418CID beast, pumping out a whopping 476hp @ 5500rpm's & a neck snapping 486lb. ft. of torque @ 4500rpm's. The original Plymouth Duster is a semi-fastback two-door coupe version of the compact-sized Plymouth Valiant automobile that was marketed by Plymouth in the U. S. from 1970 to 1976 model years. Numerous trim and option package variants of the Duster were offered with names that included Feather Duster, Gold Duster, Silver Duster, Space Duster, Duster Twister, Duster 340, and Duster 360 but this Duster gas been swapped with a 440 Big Block V8 backed by a 727 automatic transmission with a manual valve body.
