Though the contest was cancelled, someone at Ford decided the color combination looked good enough to put into production. So, Ford authorized a limited run of 5,000 special edition examples. This is because it has enough room to seat 5-6 comfortably, yet still enough power to zip around. 1972 models were virtually the same as the '71s, although the bumper now stretched across the lower section of the grille.
