This is for the serious Mustang collectors out there. For sale in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom is an investment-grade 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra R. For 1993, Ford wanted to send off the third generation Mustang, also known as the Fox Body, properly. To commemorate the end of a generation, Ford-s Special Vehicles Team (SVT) created the penultimate Fox Body Cobra: The Cobra SVT Cobra R. Power and transmission options were the same as that found in the standard Cobra. What differentiated the Cobra R was a dedicated effort to weight savings, with an absence of a radio, speakers, wiring and antenna, A/C, foglights, sound deadening, rear seat, nor any power options with manual steering, manual windows, manual door locks, manual mirrors, and manual seats. All in all, roughly 450lbs were saved from the base Cobra.

With a limited production run of only 107 units, the Cobra R was destined to be collectible. Presented here is #79. With 63 actual miles on the odometer, the best way to describe this car...

1993 marked the final year for the third generation of Ford's 'Fox Body' platform and was the first vehicle that was developed under Ford's newly established Special Vehicle Team. This Vibrant Red Clearcoat '93 Cobra SVT Cobra comes with a Ford Special Vehicle Team certificate identifying it as vehicle number 3718 out of 4993 built, and a Deluxe Marti Report, so it's definitely no Cobra 'tribute' - it's the real deal! Compared to the Mustang GT in 1993, the 1993 Cobra SVT Cobra received high flow cast iron GT40 heads, GT40 lower intake manifold, a special high flow upper intake manifold, larger throttle body/mass air meter (65mm vs 60mm), higher flow injectors (24lb/hr vs 19lb/hr), 10% transmission gear ratio reduction for 1st through 3rd gear (vs the GT's T-5 ratios), higher capacity clutch, slightly softer spring rates, Tokico shocks and struts, and a slightly thinner front swaybar. The Cobra also received its own unique 17-inch aluminum wheels and super sticky 245/45-ZR17 performance radials. The Mustang Special Service Package began as the Mustang Severe Service Package in 1982. In fact, the SSP Mustang was pioneered by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). When the CHP welcomed the Mustang into service, it had a four-barrel 5. 0L with a four-speed transmission in a compact two-door sedan package. A deal closer for the CHP was the Mustang's reliability and price--less than $7,000 per unit, making the Mustang an feasible value for California taxpayers. Of course, they soon came to dread seeing a CHP Mustang in their rearview mirror. The most significant improvements began for the '86, with steady development through the end of production in 1993. It's important to note that the SSP Mustangs weren't conceived using off-the-shelf parts. Many components were developed specifically for Special Service use, some finding their way into other heavy-duty applications outside the Mustang carline. When 5. 0L Mustangs received sequential electronic fuel injection for '86, so did SSP Mustangs. This made the 5. 0L H. O. even faster and more reliable. Not all Special Service Mustangs were stark creatures with taxicab interiors. Some had creature comforts such as power locks and windows, an AM/FM stereo, a tilt wheel, reclining seats, and more....
