This Barracuda is painted in a very nice tasteful pale yellow set off by the black vinyl top and abundant chrome and stainless trim. The body panels, body lines and gaps are all very crisp and clean showing off the Barracuda style of '68. The 318 V8 runs strong and sounds great ripping through the dual exhaust system. The power produced is sent through the factory 3 speed automatic transmission and out to the 'Sure-grip'(posi) 3:23 geared rear end. The Special Deluxe was the top of the line full size sedan offered by Plymouth and the first cars to be produced post war. It was a very crazy time in the auto industry as new cars were scarce with people putting down cash deposits just to go on a waiting list. Many of these customers were on multiple lists across town making that $1200 car become 15 to 1600 very quick. You have to remember though these were the first new cars to be made in over 5 years and for many it was a way to feel normal again. This 47 is a great example of why people wanted to pay that kind of money and couldn-t wait to get their hands on them. Having gone through a frame off restoration and the same owner since 1969 it is a testament to how things were made back then. The body is as straight as they come with the panels fitting probably better than when it left the factory.
