The El Camino was Chevrolet's answer to Ford's wildly popular Ranchero. Introduced in 1959 and based on the Impala platform, the first El Caminos were larger than the Ranchero, but did not sell as well as the Ranchero and 1st generation production ended just one year later in 1960. However, Chevrolet took another crack at the El Camino 4 years later, and it seems as if the market felt that Chevy got their stuff together, with production of the El Camino running from 1964 all the way to 1987.
