These trucks are legendary in off-roading groups for being reliable and extremely agile due to their short wheel base. Given their track record in some pretty inhospitable places, well, it's easy to see why these are growing tremendously in market value. However, all those wonderful features also makes finding a nice one challenging, since so many of these trucks have been bashed, abused, and just plain used up in the years before they made it to the collectors' A-list.
Fortunately, this 1979 Land Cruiser is very clean, with an awesome Dove Beige paint job and white top that really stands out. This '79 marks the first year of the final FJ40 version that was sold in the U. S. This particular example has restored with extensive attention to detail. The vehicle was completely dismantled before the frame was abrasive blasted to bare metal and then powder coated. All body panels and body tub have been abrasive blasted, with all rust having been repaired with either new panels or welded-in steel. The underbody stiffeners were removed, repaired, and reinstalled with all surfaces being blasted and then painted before reassembly.
