Mazda first offered the revolutionary --Wankel- rotary engine powering this RX-7 in 1978. The engine defied the norm with its design by featuring a triangular rotor that revolves around the combustion chamber instead of the traditional pistons, resulting in a much smaller displacement. On top of this, the engine was so light and compact that it could be mounted behind the front axle and meant the RX-7 had a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Following the initial success of the 12A engine, Mazda introduced the slightly higher displacement 13B rotary engine with a larger output of 135hp that was exclusive to the GSL-SE in 1984/85. Paired to this peppy motor is a responsive 5-speed manual transmission and unique to the GSL-SE over base model RX-7-s is limited slip differential, larger brakes and distinctive wheels (the owner has stated he will include these original wheels with the sale).
