In early 2002 the 03 model year Cobra was introduced and was one of the highest performing pony cars available. With no competition available from Dodge or Chevy the new Cobra SVT Cobra was in a league of its own and was dubbed the -Terminator- by lead developer John Coletti. Going from the previous model years 320hp up to a staggering 390hp, quite a few changes had to be made to the engine and drive train to handle this massive power increase. Starting at the top of the motor the 4. 6l block was changed from aluminum to cast iron to handle the added stress of the Eaton M112 super charger. The internals were modified as well including forged pistons and H beam connecting rods that could handle the 8psi of boost. At the rear of the engine Ford fitted this beast with an aluminum flywheel and mated it to a Tremec T56 6 speed transmission that feeds into a 3. 55:1 rear end.
