1954 Oldsmobile Rocket 88
View Description
The Oldsmobile 88 was produced from 1949-1999 and was the division-s top selling line from 1950-1974. The new model shared the same B-body platform as the inline-6 powered model 76, but was paired with the new 303 cid -Rocket V8- engine producing 135 hp. The combination of a fairly light body and a powerful engine made it arguably the first -muscle car-. In fact, the Rocket 88 would go on to dominate NASCAR racing, winning 6 of 9 races in the 1949 season. 1954 saw significant styling changes to the line and featured longer and lower body shells and wrap-around windows. The Rocket V8 was increased to 324 cid and could be mated to manual or -Hydra-Matic- automatic transmissions. This beautiful 1954 Olds is powered by a rebuilt 454 Chevrolet V8 powerplant and paired with a Turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission. The owner states 18,000 miles since the rebuild that included a mild cam and 3:73 gear ratio. Additional features...
