For its third generation, the American emerged with what would be its only completely new design. The entire line was treated to neat and trim lines with pleasing simplicity (compared to the more boxy predecessors) with characteristic tunneled headlights with a simple horizontal grille between them. The Rambler American's wheelbase grew by six-inches and the interiors were made more spacious. Led by the top-line 440-series convertible, they were arguably the 1964's most attractive Detroit compacts. This little Rambler is not a conservative economy car. This Beast is fitted with a Chevy 350ci with dual 4 barrel carbs on a n Offenhauser intake that slings this little 'Economy' car down the street. Putting all the Chevy Small Block power to the pavement is a 700R4 overdrive Chevy transmission and stout Ford 9 inch rear end.
