From 1950 to 1959 several changes occurred to the VW Beetle. We saw changes to the rear window from a slit oval to a singular oval, changes to the instrument panel, and the use of a folding fabric sunroof AKA ragtop. Painted in a factory-offered deep 'Grenadier Red' color, the body is claimed to have no bondo, with a black power-operated convertible top and two tone dark red and silver interior. This Bonneville has some unique styling features to go with it such as stacked headlights and blended chrome bumpers in the front and rear. The 389 cubic inch engine was bored 30 over, featuring Edelbrock aluminum heads, Edelbrock aluminum manifold, Edelbrock Performer RPM Camshaft, new hydraulic lifters and pushrods, a Quick Fuel 4-barrel 750 carburetor, HEI distributor and electronic ignition system, new fuel pump, new water pump, new belts and hoses, new aluminum radiator, new battery and new axle bearings and seals. While the Aerocoupe was mechanically identical to the standard Monte Carlo SS, the sloping rear window inspired by NASCARs for '86 and '87 model years provided improved aerodynamics and therefore a few extra mph at speed.
