Everyone in the car world recognizes and respects the Land Cruiser for its off-road capabilities and legendary reliability. The humble FJ40 is essentially a military vehicle at its core that was re-engineered by Toyota for civilian use and has a loyal following among classic 4X4 enthusiasts today. This truck was sourced from Colorado and has been extensively 'frame-off restored' to mostly stock specifications starting with media blasting, powder coating and panel replacement/refinishing where needed on the body followed by paint in a rugged 'Dune Beige' (1976 Toyota FJ color sample). Every component on this 1978 Toyota has been replaced or reconditioned according to the seller right down to the bolts and screws. The 2F 4. 2l Inline 6 engine that came with this vehicle new (stated by the seller, unconfirmed by Gateway Classic Cars) was rebuilt as part of the restoration along with the 4-speed manual transmission that has a new clutch. Pull up in this baby and jaws will surely drop- because it is fresh, has tons of personality, and it is a capable off-road 4WD Machine. Looks like a big toy. Toyota sits in the off road enthusiasts hall of fame thanks to this vehicle. Toyota rolled out the FJ40 series in 1960 and competed with the likes of Land Rovers, Jeeps, and later the Ford Bronco and Chevrolet K10. The FJ45 was a rugged, two door, 4x4 vehicle with amazing off road capabilities, and rather primitive interior treatments. The hard top is removable so open air cruising is a possibility. FJs came without carpet, and with vinyl upholstery so even if you're out in the mud and in the elements, they're easy to keep clean. Under the hood of this particular Land Cruiser you'll find a Cummins 3. 9 turbocharged intercooled engine paired with a HD-TH 400 automatic transmission and a 4x4 transfer case. Stout axle-s front and rear and BFG off-road tires will take this thing just about anywhere you want to go. This 1972 Toyota FJ40 was built to drive and we can prove it. Built from the ground up, the frame was stripped all the way down to bare metal and powder coated in gloss black. The frame mounts were modified for the new heart with a few extra cylinders. A ZZ4 350 CID V8 was taking over the power duties and is mated to a military issued Condeisel SM420 4 speed manual transmission that is attached to a Ranger Gear splitter 27% overdrive unit. As far as the custom stuff, the engine mounts, scrape plates, front steering correction kit, and the power steering plate were all fabricated. The springs and the lift feature custom made spring mounts and reinforcement gussets for strength. Rancho springs and power steering box were then bolted in place. 1. 5 inch tall body lift blocks were used to raise the body of the Cruiser. They were made of 6061 aluminum and powder coated gloss black. The drive shafts were custom made front and rear. The front and rear axles were completely rebuilt.
