BACKGROUND: The Ford Galaxie is a full-sized car that was built in the United States of America by Ford for model years 1959 through to 1974. The name was used for the top models in Ford's full-size range from 1958 until 1961, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race. For 1962, all full-size Fords wore the Galaxie badge, with "500" and "500/XL" denoting the higher series. Ford stated in its sales literature that XL stood for "Xtra Lively." In 1962 the new top-line Galaxie 500 (two-door sedan and hardtop, four-door sedan and hardtop, and "Sunliner" convertible) models offered plusher interiors, more chrome trim outside, and a few additional luxury items over and above what was standard on the plainer Galaxie models. This particular 1961 Ford Galaxie Sedan is now on its 2nd owner and had been in the same family until 2-years ago. The consignor states this Galaxie to be an original survivor with a number-matching 352 V-8 engine and Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission that has never been rebuilt. To make her road worthy - he rebuilt the carburetor, redid the brakes, master cylinder, battery, tires, and exhaust system. The owner states he wanted to keep her as original as possible - and so he left the shocks in place - as they are still functioning! So, you are looking at something unique as she only has 39,000 miles on the clock. If the miles don't excite you - maybe how well maintained the interior is will! The interior is a 2-tone Black and White vinyl, and is in great shape and does not show any fading or wear - the carpet was recently replaced. The exterior is the original Black paint that shows very - and has a small amount of patina on the bumpers - for a 58-year old car - she looks great!
