Gateway Classic cars is proud to show this 1974 Pontiac Trans Am!
The 1974 Trans Am is the last of the early second-generation Firebirds. In 1975, the wrap-around rear window would debut, but there are many who still feel that the '74s are the best-looking of the bunch. With a 455 under the hood and mated to a 4-speed gearbox such as in this appealing Buccaneer Red example, the Trans Am was still a force to be reckoned with.
By 1974, the horsepower wars were pretty much over, but Pontiac was still cranking out some of the fastest cars on the road. Buccaneer Red was one of only three Trans Am colors available in 1974, and code 75 Buccaneer Red is indeed this car's original color. It has been repainted and nicely finished, because the gloss is the result of modern paint technology and someone took their time with the bodywork underneath because it looks great. All the decals are reproductions, including the big Firebird and the smaller '455' emblems on the hood scoop, which Trans Am fans will find to be the car's most appealing feature. The black bumper rub strips are in great condition, undamaged by the passage of time and the harsh sun, and the bright stainless around the windows remains in good shape.
The list of new equipment inside is extensive, and the bottom line is that it is fresh and done to factory specs throughout. New seat covers hug the supportive factory buckets and show very little use since the car was completed a few years ago. The carpets and headliner are also new and duplicate the original materials and patterns as well, keeping everything strictly OEM. The dash continued to use an engine-turned fascia, but and you still got a full array of gauges, including the final year for the 160 MPH speedometer. This car is loaded with options, too, including a console, and a factory AM/FM stereo radio.
The 455 Big Block has plenty of pep and has a 4-barrel carb that handles the intake side, while a big aluminum radiator keeps it nice and cool. The very clean chassis features a recent exhaust system with correct tips and there are new bushings on the suspension. A 4-speed gearbox feeds power to a durable 10-bolt rear end so it cruises easily, but blasts through the gears in finest muscle car fashion. Factory "honeycomb" wheels look great.
The impressive finish work on this car means that you do not have to do a thing before you start enjoying your new Trans Am. Call today!
