1951 Studebaker Commander 4dr For Sale in Chicago. The 1951 Studebaker Commander was the most important collector model among 1950-1951 \"bullet nose\" Studebakers. The main reason is that this was the first year for the firm\'s pioneering 120 horse power 232 V-8 engine, really the first of the small-block engines (though Chevy and Ford usually get the credit). The postwar Studebaker Commander had been the work of Virgil Exner and Raymon Loewy. Its bullet-nosed front end and use of chrome trim gave the vehicle a distinct appearance. Power was from a 233 cubic-inch overhead valve V8 that continued to rise in power as the years progressed. In 1952, the Commander was chose as the Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. This Commander 4dr has been beautifully restored a few years back and is in great shape. This car runs and drives fine, with newer radial black wall tires on the original steel wheels. Options on this Studebaker are AM radio, full factory gauges, aftermarket seat belt set, dog dish hubcaps, and restored cloth interior. This car starts by pulling the start lever in the car, and that functions well. All the gauges seem to work, but the radio doesn\'t. The trunk compartment is nicely detailed with a matching spare tire. All this car needs is a tube in the radio (probably) and a driver! Nice car! This 1951 Studebaker Commander 4dr can be seen at www.gatewayclassiccars.com, and is located in our Chicagoland Showroom, which can be reached at 708 444 4488.
