1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am

For sale in our Chicago showroom is this 1976 Pontiac Trans Am. The second generation of the Trans Am replaced the "Coke bottle" styling with a more "swoopy" body style, with the top of the rear window line going almost straight down to the lip of the trunk lid--a look that was to epitomize F-body styling for the longest period during the Firebird's lifetime. In 1977 emissions restrictions tightened which means 1976 was the last of the "Big Cube Birds," with only 7,100 units produced with the 455 engine. The 455 engine available in the second generation Firebird Trans Am was arguably the last high-performance engine of the original muscle car generation. This particular T/A is exactly that. Boasting its original, numbers matching 455 CID V8. Backing this beast is the original 4 speed manual transmission. This 3 owner car has just under 32,000 miles. This Bird would spend its downtime in a climate controlled facility ever since 1991. The only thing added to this all original beauty is a set of "true-dual" exhaust in January 2014. Black was finally offered on a T/A this year, but only about 2590 of them. This exterior is draped in the limited Starlite Black, and was repainted with lacquer in 1991. The hood is emblazoned with the all familiar gold Firebird. Other gold Trans Am decals can tastefully be seen around the exterior of this 'Bird. The shaker hood scoop would make its last appearance as the original rounded design this year. The pronounced intake lip of the shaker would be less so in the model years to follow. Climb inside the wide doors, and be greeted by a new interior for 1976. The seats are a bit more contoured, with richer materials. Vertical ribbing now replaced the horizontal sew lines of the 1971 to 1975 seats. The seats are also thicker appearing, with additional padding. This interior is the custom trim level and ordered up Tetra vinyl. Options include: air conditioning, AM/FM radio with 8 track, power brakes, power steering, power door locks, power windows, tilt steering wheel, seat belts, vinyl interior, and radial tires.
