1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle for sale in our Detroit Showroom. What makes this Beetle special is that it has factory A/C! That is not something you see too often on any classic Bug. The Super Beetle was a special package that went to a more modern front end with Macpherson style struts replacing the dual parallel torsion bar beams which had compromised trunk space, and relocated the spare tire from a near vertical to a low horizontal position. The redesign resulted in a tighter turning radius despite a 20 mm longer wheelbase, and a doubling of the front compartment's cargo volume. This strut front suspension also offered precise steering and a comfortable ride. This type of independent front suspension was used by a number of manufacturers at the time and continues to be used widely to this day. The new suspension was lighter than the traditional torsion-beam design, the inner fenders were now heavier and the anti-roll bar was made much larger. The chassis frame head had to be substantially modified and made flatter to accommodate the new suspension changes. As with previous models, air pressure from the spare tire pressurized the windshield washer canister, in lieu of an electric pump. 1972 Super Beetles had an 11 percent larger rear window, larger front brakes, four rows of vents (versus two rows previously) on the engine deck lid, tail lights incorporating reverse lights, a four-spoke energy-absorbing steering wheel and steering column, and an engine compartment socket for the proprietary VW Diagnosis system. The Beetle or Bug as it is popularly known is the longest running and most manufactured car of a single design platform, ever worldwide! This VW Beetle for sale is painted back to its original color of Blood Orange which can be seen in original paint on the shock towers (to show that it is left untouched and solid). The interior is very nicely done in black with the 4 speed manual transmission, aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette, and rare A/C controls and vents. The air conditioner in this vehicle is all there with the exception of the compressor. The lines, duct work, vents, controls, and everything are still in place. Bolt in a modern compressor (as the originals drained a lot of horsepower), charge it and you will have the only air conditioned VW in town! The floors, shock towers, rockers, doors, and everywhere that these Beetles usually rust is extremely solid on this car because it spent most of its life in Florida and was very well cared for. Options include AM/FM/Cassette, vinyl interior, seat belts, radial tires, hub caps, A/C (missing compressor), and the 1,600 CC engine. Having the 1,600 CC engine gets you more power than your standard Beetle while still maintaining fantastic fuel economy even by today’s standards! This Super Beetle for sale has had the front end rebuilt, shiny new paint, and it runs and drives fantastic! Appears to be all original metal and is extremely solid! All of the glass is in excellent condition and still has VW stampings (except windshield) so it too appears to be original. The weather stripping and window felts are nice and soft and the body gaps are consistent.
