The third generation of the Ford Thunderbird was a large departure from the much more art deco styling of the second generation T-Bird. The new personal luxury car from Ford featured much more sleek body work. The taillights were reminiscent of rocket boosters, showing the influence of the space race on design at this period in American history. This particular vehicle is colored in a wonderful and subtle light blue inside and out. Overall, the paint is in great shape, with the only two major flaws being on the driver’s side quarter panel, and the passenger side front fender. The hub cabs and white wall tires just fit the look of this Thunderbird perfectly. Under the hood is a very clean engine bay filled with a Ford 390 CID FE V8. It is uncertain if it is numbers matching, but it is correct equipment for the vehicle. As you reach for the door, you will notice that the handle has been very cleverly shaped into the belt line of the car. Inside is the famous swing away steering wheel. When the vehicle is in park, the wheel can be moved 18 inches to the right, allowing easier entry and exit. Though the interior is a Spartan place to spend time, with the only equipment being vinyl seats and an AM radio, it is an extremely comfortable interior, and boasts a very attractive minimalist look that was far ahead of its time.
