Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is proud to offer a very cool 1979 International Scout II. International Harvester started the Scout line in 1961 with the Scout 80. The vehicles were to compete with the Jeeps of the time and ultimately helped contribute to our modern definition of an SUV. A slightly more refined model, the Scout II was an off-road oriented vehicle with a removable hard top which was now comfortable enough to use for daily driving. These trucks are built like tanks, and can handle just about anything you can throw at them, but you can still drive them on road, keep up with traffic, and do everything a normal car does. This particular Scout II has been beefed up a bit for a bit more rugged feel. The body has been restored and finished in a very unique way. The entire body, both inside and out, have been covered in bed liner material. The coating is known for being incredibly durable and was designed to handle heavy loads in the beds of pickup trucks. The floorboards have black liner, and the exterior is coated in a desert tan color which gives a very rugged appearance. The whole rig sits on rebuilt suspension which has room to clear large mud terrain tires which are mounted on black steel wheels. Under the hood is a healthy rebuilt 304 CID V8 which lets out a sweet exhaust note. The engine was rebuilt about 500 miles ago and has a mild cam, headers, and it has been converted to fit a four barrel carburetor. Backing the 304 is a rebuilt automatic transmission which shifts great makes for an easy vehicle to drive. The Scout II is best enjoyed with the top off, but there is a removable hard top available with this one. To add to the driving experience, this one has a full modern stereo so you can jam out while you're cruising. This truck can easily be driven straight to the trails, and fend very well once it gets there. If there aren't any woods around you, this one would be just as much fun in the mud, on the dunes, cruising up and down the beach, or even just poking around town.
