Ford might have been the first to create a pickup truck based on a car by introducing the Ranchero in 1957, most however would credit Chevrolet for increasing the popularity in this style vehicle. The style is known as a “coupe utility vehicle†and was based on a two-door station wagon platform that integrated the cab and bed into the body. Now suddenly people could cruise around in something that resembled their buddies Chevelle but still provided them with a working bed, if needed. The major changes to the 1966 included, new sheet metal was used, the same sheet metal they used on Chevelle’s actually. They also featured an updated instrument panel with horizontal sweep speedometer and a few minor interior differences, depending on which version/model you purchased. This El Camino is currently on it’s 3rd owner and has been in the owner’s family for over 40+ years. It’s painted a gorgeous sapphire blue and trimmed by silver stripes, it also includes sprayed metallic flake throughout the exterior.
