It was then mated to smooth shifting four-speed manual transmission that features, independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and a solid rear axle with leaf springs. Braking in this car is done by hydraulic drums on all corners. In 1958, an open car was tested by The Motor magazine and the MGA was found to have a top speed of 113 mph, acceleration from 0–60 mph in 9.1 seconds and a fuel consumption of 23 miles per gallon.
